How to remove scratches from a music box?

Music boxes are delicate and cherished possessions that can easily get scratched over time. Whether it's due to regular use or accidental mishandling, scratches can significantly diminish the aesthetic appeal of your music box. However, there is a simple solution to help you restore its original charm.

Did you know that olive oil can be used to remove scratches from your music box? This natural remedy has been proven effective in restoring the surface of various materials, including wood and metal. Here are the steps:

1. Clean the surface: Before applying olive oil, make sure to clean the surface of your music box using a soft cloth or brush. This will help remove any dirt or debris that may interfere with the scratch removal process.

2. Apply olive oil: Pour a small amount of olive oil onto a clean cloth or cotton ball. Gently rub the scratched area in a circular motion, applying moderate pressure. Continue this process until the scratches start to fade.

3. Wipe off excess oil: After the scratches have diminished, use a clean cloth to wipe off any excess oil from the surface of your music box. This will prevent the oil from attracting dust or dirt.

TIP: for even better results mix equal parts olive oil and vinegar, which work together to remove dirt, moisturize, and shine wood. Pour a little directly onto the scratch. Let the polish soak in for 24 hours, then wipe off. Repeat until the scratch disappears.
TIP: for really deep scratches & dents it is recommended to patch the area first with wax or resin based wood restoration kit (example here).
